When you’re looking for a master-planned community to call home, the location of the community should be a top consideration. Whether you're looking for the modern comforts of a big city or a community off the beaten path, Harmony, Florida truly is the best of both worlds. We are close enough to the big city of Orlando, with all the benefits of a small town, far enough away from the hustle and bustle. What’s really unique about Harmony’s location, though, is its proximity to driveable day trip locations your family will love to explore! We’ve got a list of three day trips within two hours of Harmony that are fun and family-friendly.
Tampa Lowry Park Zoo
One hour and forty-five minute drive from Harmony
Looking to get out of the same ol’ Orlando area attractions? Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is a great educational alternative for young families (and adults, too!). Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is one of the most popular zoos in the southeast, with over 1 million visitors annually. It has an emphasis on endangered, threatened and vulnerable species from climates similar to that of the Tampa Bay region. It's a wonderful opportunity to see native endangered animals, like manatees, up close. You can also see species from other climates like Asia, Africa and Australia.
Bok Tower Gardens
An hour and a half drive from Harmony
Bok Tower Gardens is a National Historical Landmark located outside of Central Florida. It boasts one of the greatest works of famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. Adults will appreciate Bok Tower Garden's scenery and architecture, while children can enjoy the children's garden. Garden adventure guides are available for families as well. They are filled with fun facts and activities your family can enjoy while learning about the cultural and natural history of the gardens. Use the map and clues to hunt for the hidden tile posts on your way to the Singing Tower!
Weeki Wachee Springs
Two hour and fifteen minute drive from Harmony
Weeki Wachee Springs is one of Florida’s oldest springs. These spring are so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh 74-degree water bubble up out of subterranean caverns. Deep in the spring, the surge of the current is so strong that it can knock a scuba diver’s mask off. The basin of the spring is 100 feet wide with limestone sides, and the mermaids swim 16 to 20 feet below the surface. Yes, you read that right – mermaids! While at Weeki Wachee, enjoy seeing the world famous mermaid show! Breathing underwater with air hoses, your kids are sure to love seeing these "real" mermaids up close and personal in the springs.
